Summer break with GALLIVANT Perfumes
Summertime is a period of wanderlust. Wherever you are, the season encourages travel, journeys, relaxation, and the making of stories you’ll always remember. This is why we brought GALLIVANT Perfumes to our market and invited the line’s founder to Tampa.
GALLIVANT Perfumes is a U.K.-based new indie brand of fragrances designed with the urban explorer in mind. Founder Nick Steward lives in London, but has passed hundreds of times across international borders, had his passport stamped, and grown to love cities around the world. The first four scents in his line are inspired by the essences of Brooklyn (musky citrus), Istanbul (ambery, woody, spicy), London (floral leather), and Tel Aviv (floral fruity).
During our limited “pop-up fling” time in Hyde Park Village (May 12-July 16), we wanted to program something unusual and exciting, especially in the spirit of summer season travels.
Already on tour through the U.S., we convinced Nick to detour to Tampa on June 23 for a cocktail party and reception for his new line, as well as a coffee chat the following morning with a select few who appreciate fine fragrance.
What fun we had! Nick brought a depth of institutional fragrance knowledge and professional “nose” to help Tampa learn a bit about his world.
We sampled pure notes and accords like vanilla (not sweet at all, apparently what we think of as sweet, gourmand vanilla is more like ylang ylang), suede, orris (iris), and magnolia, and discussed his motivations behind the GALLIVANT Perfumes lineup. We were lucky enough to preview the next releases, Amsterdam and Berlin, due out in 2018.
I can say personally that his passion and warmth were infectious; we so enjoyed hosting him in Tampa and are happy to report that GALLIVANT is a hit with locals too! Only a few of each of the four scents remains from our initial order.
The line is a very reasonable price point ($95 for 30ml), especially considering its eau de parfum classification (more concentrated than eau de toilette, the commercial standard…read more here) and Nick’s talent, honed from his days as creative director at L’Artisan Parfumeur, the standard-setter for fine fragrance in Paris. It’s also sized perfectly for travel and portability.
So have you been to any of the destinations in the GALLIVANT Perfumes line? What’s your take, are they accurate representations?
What are some of your favorite destinations, and how would they be translated into an eau de parfum?
